I'm getting a VOIP phone sent to me from the UK soon and will need to connect it to the modem I have here - but I have no idea how to get into the settings of this model to configure things - can anyone point me in the right direction?

The only model number I can find on the modem is Ericsson T063G , but I can't find anything about this at all (not in English, anyway!)

I would have thought this has some sort of web interface where I could access to set up SIP accounts etc?

Only thing I can find about it is a datasheet in Russian which isn't really much help to me :p

Thanks in advance !

This may well have another model number for units delivered to other parts of the World - contact manufacturer and ask
In the interim it's easy to make voip calls from the puter with a mic and headphones

Erm, you'd typically set up the SIP accounts on the SIP handset not in the router mate.

Only thing you may need to do is a bit of port forwarding which you will need to get into the router for, though tbh if you're using a decent provider that has things set up properly at their end and it is only a single phone you will probably get away with just plugging it in.

I take it you've tried just putting the IP you get assigned as default gateway into a web browser and seeing if you get a login prompt?

Oooh didn't notice there'd been replies here!

I currently use eyeBeam , with 3 SIP accounts which works just fine.

We're getting a VOIP system installed in the office - where I would be come one of the extensions on the office phone system, and also be able to dial out from here. This would go through a Nortel BCM50 system I believe, and a Nortel VOIP handset.

I've never worked with VOIP apart from the likes of Xlite/Eyebeam etc. and assumed this would be configured on the Modem as that has VOIP sockets on it.

So say in that scenario - how would the VOIP phone know, that I'm on the office network, will this create a SIP server on that side I just connect to using the VOIP phone?

And yeah I tried the IP of the default gateway, doesn't come up with anything unfortunately :(

I've been struggling to find any info / alternative product codes for this modem - doesn't seem very common , has a fibre connection going straight into it.

Ok, seems its a GPON modem - I did try to speak to Ericsson yesterday to get some documentation with just the model number which didn't get me anywhere. Will see if I have more luck tomorrow now I have more of an idea what type of modem it is

If its fibre direct (just seen you're in Malaysia, and the little yellow cable poking around the side of the white duct!) then the "voip" ports might be an FXS socket that could be preconfigured to allow the ISP to provide you a voice service over and you just plug in a regular phone.

The phone you get will hopefully just need connecting up to an Ethernet socket, and if its been set up correctly at the other end you shouldn't need to configure very much of anything.

We do a similar thing with Cisco call manager stuff, home workers are provided with a Cisco router that they can connect up to their own network, this creates a VPN tunnel to the office and then their work laptop and phone can be plugged into that. Phones download configs then over the VPN tunnel and away it goes.

Why don't you ask either the people supplying the system or your IT people if you're going to be expected to do anything special at your end?

Aha - I just assumed I needed to use the Phone ports as they were there - plugging directly into Ethernet would be easiest I guess.

I'll speak to the guys supplying the phone system tomorrow, see what advice they can give me. We don't really have "IT People" unfortunately, being a small company !
