I have broadband with a BT Home Hub. But I want to get rid of it and connect directly to by Unifi network. Tried a Bt 431a to RJ45 convertor to plug from my telephone line into my USG but that didn't work.

You need either an openreach modem, or equivalent, as the USG doesn't have that functionality. Phone line into the modem and then connect that the to USG

You may think it's rubbish but it works well and isn't expensive. However from the sound of things you don't have a router that will take a broadband connection - if I'm right the USG is just a network switch? If that's the case and you want to stay with Ubiquity then have a look at the Dream Machine. You'll still need the Openreach modem though.

Yup, just a bog standard OR modem unlocked off eBay. Hooked that into my EdgeRouter, configured PPPoE and off you go.
