Can't seem to get access to my main PC from my laptop.
Have got the printer set up networked.
Can see my laptop from my PC but it says I don't have permission to access it and the same from my laptop to PC.
Have set up sharing but it does not work.
By the way running Vista ultimate 64bit on PC and Vista home premium 32bit on laptop.
What I would really like is to access my Esata drive that is plugged into my Main PC. Any help thanks

Do both of your machines have usernames with passwords, seem to recall that now being a requirement for sharing files under windows.

How are you networking the two PCs and your printer, through a wireless or wired router?

if through a wireless router you might want to check the wireless isolation setting. if wireless isolation is active, even though you can each access the internet - you cannot access your networked PCs

check network and sharing center.

enable network discovery, file sharing and password protected sharing.

click at the bottom - show me the files I am sharing.

drag your Esata drive in to the list.

If that doesn't work - let us know.

ah and of course, if you dont sign on to your computer - you will not be able to share files. So, you need to have a sign on password - otherwise your PC would be insecure to the world i.e. if you were at a coffee shop.

I don't sign on to my computer is this what you mean
Password protected sharing is on by default in Vista, which means you need to be logged on with a username and password, and that account also needs to exist and have permissions on the machine hosting the shares. It's not hard, just replicate the usernames and passwords on both machines before sharing the files/folders/printer.
