How to connect monitors: HDMI, MiniDP, DP?

Hi,

Looking for a bit of advice on how best to connect a Lenovo Legion Y545 with two (so-far) Dell U2412M monitors - and getting confused.

I currently have a mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort splitter, but i think it is causing strange intermittment black-screens of the monitors: they suddenly cut out.

Before replacing it, i wanted to check if this was the best combo. Mainly used as a work station with occasional light gaming.

The laptop has a single Mini DisplayPort, an HDMI, three Type A USB and 1 Type C USB. The monitors have DVI-D, DisplayPort and VGA....

Any suggestions appreciated!!

Worth mentioning, the Dell U2412M doesn't daisy chain....

But what i can't figure out is how to do two of them. One Mini DP to DP, and another with a different combo? A splitter?!

Feel very dumb at being unable to figure this out!

Is that considered better than using a splitter, so that both monitors get the same type of signal?!
