I have just built a new HTPC and would like to out put sound (more specifically my music) through speakers rather than the tv (via HDMI). I have all my music on the HTPC and TV speakers are not ideal!.The HTPC has the following-

Audio: Realtek ALC892 codec, High Definition Audio, 2/4/5.1/7.1-channel, Support for Dolby Home Theater, Support for S/PDIF Out

I am not too bothered by surround sound although it might be nice in the future, so does anyone have any suggestions for an amp and a couple of speakers that have an optical input?
Failing finding something i was thinking of getting some Logitech z5500's as i have seen them at a good price.
I really have no idea what i need!

You can go for stereo separates, and either an amp and an external DAC, or you can grab an AVR which has all the digital inputs you'd expect and the possibility to move to surroundsound in the future, at a trade off of lesser quality for the same priced stereo amp and DAC.
