I'm currently without a monitor and need to connect a new PC to an old 21" CRT. The CRT doesn't have a S-Video connection but my graphics card has a TV-Out connection.

The TV only has the old yellow, white and red connections. Is there a converter i can get that will allow me to connect from my pc's gfx card to my TV?

So your pc has a tv-out, and your tv has the old yellow (video in)??? Simply connect the tv-out of the pc to the yellow video in on the tv...!!!

You dont need anything other than a phono cable...

Do you mean your gfx card only has the s-vdeio for tv-out...??? If so, you will need an s-video to compostie cable.. this splits an s-vdeo connection to the three you need: red, white and yellow connectors, to match your tv...

Yellow is video, and red/white are your audio channels...

Or, this, which will just isolate the video signal from s-video...

The card has S-Video out on it but there are no connectors that will fit into any of the connections on my TV.

So i just need a phono-phono lead and then i need to connect it from the yellow connector from the svideo lead to the yellow connector on the TV? Thats it?

As you can probably tell, i get easily confused when it comes to cabling and stuff! :p

Just noticed your edit.

I'm with you now. So it's one of these i need.

And i only need to connect the one cable into the yellow?

DrMekon, cheers for your patience and help. I ended up getting one of the scart converters with the svideo, yellow, green and red on it for £1. However, the picture on the TV was in black and white. That's what you get for getting stuff from a pound shop! :)

Luckily last night, a friend managed to get hold of an Iiyama 513 CRT for me that his work didn't need. I'm almost tempted not to bother even getting a TFT now. :)

Thanks again.

dont worry buddy, the picture is black and white because you have the setting for the tv format wrong on your video card:)
just change it to "pal-uk" and you should have full colour, i think the default setting would be ntsc i think?

S-video to composite will be b/w. The Y/C channels need combining (simple adapter has a small capacitor inside). Although the card may be able to select composite or s-video for the output.
