Eggs are my main source of protein at the moment, so I have around 2 to 3 a day, but right now I have what I believe to be salmonella :eek:

I put this down to the fact that no matter how much I try, I can never get the yolk solid, only runny.

What I do is crack the egg into the pan, cook for a few minutes, then flip it over to cook the other side that the yolk is on. Yet no matter how long I let it cook for, the yolk stays runny, I've even burnt both sides before to no avail.

Tried google, but no sites offer how to cook yolk properly

Thanks!

pierce the yolk, also you can try hard boiling - 8-9minutes is boilign water.

You can then eat hot or cool in cold water and eat later.

The heat is too high if you're burning it before the yolk is solid, it's very easy to overcook yolks (if your intentions are to keep it runny), and I doubt you've got salmonella unless you're eating some dodgy black market eggs from chickens that aren't vaccinated against salmonella, the chances of that are practically nil.

Eggsactly.

Nothing wrong with a runny yolk.

I barely even cook the yolk when I have boiled eggs, just enough to give it a creamier consistency than it has when raw, nearly half of the white is still raw.

Kids worry too much now days ;)

But I'm pretty violently ill

And I remember one egg in the box not actually being stamped to show it had been vaccinated :(

A runny yolk hasn't been cooked enough to kill bacteria

I doubt that is what made you ill. I always have runny yolks, and I am pretty sure no self respecting supermarket would sell unvaccinated chicken eggs - from the cheapo battery eggs to the expensive organic free range.

eggs cannot be your main source of protein if you are only eating 2 or 3 a day!
No matter how small you are, that is not enough protein for it to be your main source.
