I want to play AVI files on Xbox 360 but using Windows media Connect i can only see my MP3's and jpegs, and not AVI files.

I guess I need to copy them to the HDD, but using media connect i can't see an option to copy files, and even though the Xbox is connected directly to my wireless router I can't see Xbox in "my computer" on the laptop

I think you need MCE to stream video files over to the 360, but I think some people have managed to play DivX etc. over network using certain programs, can't remember what they're called though :(

You need MCE to play videos, and you need a piece of sotware that
converts DivX to Mpeg on the fly!

Its sometimes a little hit and miss but its easy to use (Im not too technical).
It massively increases the file size mind.

You can navigate media on your pc through the 360 without having media centre.

ok thanks, but how do i then copy the files to the Xbox, or will the Xbox "see" the AVI files on my laptop once they have been converted?

Yeah the xbox sees it.
Magical stuff!!

Ive never copied movies onto the hard drive , just a few jpegs.

Just a wee note:-

The 360 will not stream any form of video from anything other than a Windows Media Center PC. Even that must be in the correct format first, or encoded on the fly.

Ah , I have MC on mine but you can still see the files when browsing through the xbox i.e without using MC on the 360.

Sorry for the bum advice.
