how to create a bootable backup of my os and apps?

i reckon the best way to use it is install it on a pc, then select the 'create a bootable disc' it will make a bootable cd with the backup and recovery program on it, so instead of going into windows, it'll boot off the cd and you can make a full backup using that

the cd also lets you create a recovery partition on the same hard drive as you're currently using, and give you the option to press F11 to boot into the acronis partition, so you can do future backups/restores with the cd and without any extra files on your c partition!

its literally like this (this is a slightly older version to what i'm using i think)

i made a bootable cd, then from that cd that menu comes up

on the left in 'tools' i clicked manage acronis secure zone, and activate acronis startup recovery manager (so you can create a password for entering the recovery phase

then i pressed F11 on next boot to test it, and created a backup in the recovery zone

bingo :)
