how to create a simple dmg?

hi guys,

is there an easy way to convert a folder do a dmg? i had a look in disk utility but it wants me to make a pre-size-allocated file and put the stuff in there, but i'd just like to turn some folders to DMGs for storage, i dont need the dmg to be able to change its size afterwards...

do i maybe need a 3rd party app?

cuz i like the way dmgs mount rather than just unpacking like a zip...

naively i tried that, cuz i know you can switch between iso and dmg...
