As above for the easiest option.

If that doesn't work, then use PSTools -> PsExec

CCleaner does have the option, just upgade to win 10.

CCleaner is one of the best free software OS cleaning tools out there used it for years never had any probs.

Why use Ccleaner when there's a tool supplied with Windows that does the same job? :confused:

Because like many other users who upgraded to Windows 10, the windows.old directory is very difficult to remove, even if you take full ownership on the folder and it's file, even Unlocker can't remove it, let alone Disk Clean Up, even in Safe Mode

I ended up booting to Hirens and removing it that way

As l upgraded to win 10 waited a week to see if all was ok, used Ccleaner why not as it does more then clean up files, again its a very handy tool check it out.
