I get CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT BSOD when playing CPU intensive games. As soon as I run CPU: OCCT the core temperatures rise to over 85 c (from < 30 c when idle), which sometimes causes the CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT too. So my CPU is overheating, but why?
My kit:
Motherboard Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 5 rev 1.0 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
CPU Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail
Cooler Corsair Hydro H60 V2 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
Memory Corsair Vengeance Pro Red 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (CMY16GX3M2).
This has been working OK for 3 years, with no overclocking, but I have not monitored the CPU temperature before.
Cooler case fan is working OK. I have just replaced the thermal paste on the CPU (it was rather patchy), but this has made no difference to the overheating. I am starting to suspect the cooler is faulty. How do I even tell if the pump is working? The cooler is plugged into the CPU_OPT (pump) and CPU Fan (fan) and the bios reports that both fans are spinning (I think the CPU_OPT was 1400 rpm).
