I have disabled fast writes in the Bios.

But according to the screeny below , the GPU is still enabled.

I can't find any option in the software to disable it.

Also, why does the OS show a max AGP rate of 2X, when everything else shows 8X ?

Thanks in advance.

Um, I think that's just saying your GPU is capable of fastwrites - the fact it's got a No in the chipset column means you've turned it off at the Bios.

That would make sense, tried riva tuner but no option enabled there.

Thanks.

Hi,
just turned my fast write off in the Bios as well, could someone explain what this actually does/doesn't do?

Also noticed mrdbristol that under your sideband addressing under OS your's is a yes where as mines a no?

Also final question I noticed that my Antialiasing is set at 4x and the Anistropic Filtering is set at 8x. Is this ok or should they be Apllication controlled.

Oh my card a leadtek 6800GT btw :)

Fast write apparently is a relatively old way of getting the CPU to send information directly to the GPU bypassing system memory. While this may sound good and might increase fps by 1 or 2% it will also lead to instability and crashing. Best to leave it off especially on modern cards as the performance increase is even less then on older (pre 9800) cards.

Thanks for the reply.I take it you mean pre 6800 cards? :)
I haven't ever had stability issues with it on,but I have noticed it will clock a bit more when switched off.

Any of the 6xxx series shouldn't need it turned on. It really is just an old method that isn't needed any more and what small benefits it might give can lead to crashing and stuttering on some machines. It probably gets worse as you overclock more which is why you were able to overclock it further with it turned off.
