How to disable Media Centre (Vista)?

I currently have Vista Premium, but hate MCE with a passion, I use Media Portal for such purposes.
The problem is, that the some remote's buttons starts up certain functions in Windows MCE, which I don't want.

I presume I can disable MCE somewhere in the registry?

disabling services would be a good place to begin, not the registry

There's no Aero in Home Basic.

I'm sure it must be removable via the Programs & Features Control Panel.

OP, it might be a pain but you could always vLite a Vista install, and remove it that way?

I've been looking for a way to cut some of the crap out of Vista too, however i'm a bit worried about messing around at this point, as it seems to be working...

Wasn't spam.

It's certainly safer than poking around in the registry and services.
