How to disable speedstep on Asus P8P67 Pro and i2500k ?

Ive had amd for a number of years, now ive gone sandy bridge

Ive turned off speedstep in the bios, but the cpu idles at 1600mhz, what else do i have to alter, tried loads but its still throttling

Help please

Correct, turn EIST off and should solve the issue.

Why? SpeedStep and Cool'n'Quiet exist for a reason. Turning it off wouldn't stop your CPU throttling anyway because overclocking Sandy Bridge CPUs requires Turbo Boost.

I don't think you can run a Sandy Bridge at a fixed Multi. I think the whole overclockability is based on speedstep / turbo

weird, so why have speedstep in the bios in the first place?

Turn off turbo as well, that way it'll stay at the multi you've manually selected.
