I have a message popping up when starting a Windows 7 fresh-install laptop saying "Windows has detected a hard disk problem". Thing is the laptop is woking fine, and I've done a scan which includes a bad-sector check without finding any problems.

The message appears at every start and only gives me the option to backup or to postpone which means it will show at the next start. This is an older machine out of warranty in which we won't be replacing the disk, so I'm wondering how I can disable this message. Also, is there a good and free registry cleaner that may be able to help; this could well be a registry issue.

Many thanks!

I doubt it is a registry issue and registry cleaners are a crock of sh... something.

Have you run the manufacturer's diagnostic tools on the HDD? There may well be an issue not picked up by a chkdsk.
