How to discover domain owner

We're leasing a domain and want to make an offer to purchase it. The company we lease the domain from do not own it and will not part with the information due to privacy agreements which is fair enough.

Their bottom line reads:
"If you are able to contact the owner of this domain another way then you can get the information from them then that would be fine. But we cannot provide this for you."

Any ideas? Whois lookups just points to the company we're leasing from..

You could use whois.sc and look back at the records (might require payment).

If you do a who is search you should be able to see the administrative/technical contact for the domain. Centralops.net domain dossier check is usually pretty decent.

just out of curiosity, checked out my mates website. by using the link below:

http://www.nominet.org.uk/other/whois/

its got he's name on their, but he has opted out of providing any contact details.

You can only opt out if you're registering as a private individual.

And only with certain TLD's - I remove all mine on my .co.uk's.
