How to do this graphic effect..

The images with the white edging..making it look like a cut out. Any tips on how to do this or what it's called?

That's what I'm talking about: where the characters have a half inch white border around them and a slight drop shadow. Makes it look cut out.

In photoshop just apply a "stroke" layer effect of 5-7 pixels in white, should give the correct effect.

... then rasterize the type/stroke layer, before applying a subtle drop shadow.

Rasterizing is necessary as Photoshop's drop shadow blending option doesn't take into account the stroke blending option

or select text > new layer > select expand X pix > fill

Or if your an illustrator kinda guy, then you can apply the stroke and expand that and apply the drop shadow.. that way you have a completely vectorised scalable image.
