Hello all.Can anyone plz help me out here as I'm having a bit of a nightmare here :(.The problem is that I'm trying to get true dolby digital 5.1 surround sound through a pair of Tritton ax pro's.I can get the 2 DDpl no problem, but really want dolby digital true 5.1.
So my 1st question is,is the Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H-BK mobo firstly capable of running true dolby digital 5.1 surround sound? And if so how do i enable it in win10 pro 64bit.I'm using the optical output on the onboard Realtek audio. It says that that the optical is working, but there is no sound when i test the headphones, yet when listening to music and so forth i'm getting sound ok.So can anyone guide me as to what to do plz.

I would sell them. Get yourself a decent set of Sennheisers or AKG which have 2 drivers rather than smaller multiple drivers. Then get yourself an external DAC/AMP setup. Something from Schiit or the AUNE T1 if on a tighter budget.

Would sound 1000 times better than those gimmicky things you have at the moment. Also post in sound city section of the forums. That is where all the headphone experts are. Near the top of the forums.

They don't support trueHD. truHD doesn't work over optical anyway, not enough bandwidth.

Edit: oh ignore me, when you said true I thought you said trueHD. Brain fart.

It really depends on what you are trying to get DD5.1 from.

If you want to play DVD/BR films and get DD5.1, then it will depend on what DVD software you are running (whether it supports 5.1 passthrough), and if there is a sound software setting for DD passthrough.

If you want to play a game and expect the motherboard audio to on-the-fly encode DD5.1 output, then it will need to support Dolby Digital Live rather than just Dolby Digital 5.1.
