Hi all,

I'd check the gazillion page thread but that'd take too long.

Surely I can't be the only one that is utterly crap at controlling cars in GTA?

I've only done the first couple of very easy missions, but I fear that if I can't drive a car right now I'll have no chance with some of the later missions.

So how do you maintain a good speed and take corners properly? If I brake + accelerate round a corner this hardly turns the car at all. If I handbrake even slighly the car just spins more than I want it to.

Any tips? :D

I'd recommend using the first person view in the car and don't try to turn with the brake on. Break straight, turn and accelerate.

(This is how I drive in the 360 version but I'm guessing the cars drive the same)

its a case of lifting off and coasting around corners,

Being yank tanks if you brake they under steer, very badly as in they carry on going straight lol.

So i lift off and coast around corners, tapping the hand brake if need be.

Edit, re above, the in car view makes it a lot harder for me lol. The cars dont really handle true to life, so in car view can be a real pain, even more so if you spin out.

Yeah its pretty hard. I just got used to it after a while. I can't really drive the same as the old GTAs but I don't think thats really possible anyway. When you pick up some better cars it gets easier too.

I let go of the accelerater before a corner, brake before I turn into it (don't brake while turning), then accelerate out.

Definitely go with the first person view, it makes it a lot easier. And as has been said brake before the corner and accelerate around it because some of the cars handle like tanks.

It's not as handbrake friendly as the others where. It just takes some getting used to, they just under steet. Use your brake as you turn.

Also just be thankfull, the handling on the PS3 version is better than the 360 version lol

I have the 360 version, but I also find the cars handle terribly on corners.
However, I stole a car that looked like a lamborghini and the handling is *miles* better (until I trashed it :( ). I think the cars you start off with have been designed to handle badly, so that you go looking for better cars when they become available.

Im finding driving hard also, cornering i can just about handle, i find stopping hard even when i dont lock it up i still seem to hit things at really high speed. It's comical seeing Niko flying through the windscreen though :)

Driving is completely different.

The best thing to do, as mentioned, is to brake heavily on the straight and lift off around corners. Too much power on the way out of the corner too soon and the back end goes.

Really good fun although at first I didn't like it.

The Turismo? There is someone you do missions for later who always has one parked around his place :D

Forget breaking, just accelerate, then just before hitting something tap handbrake so you hit it sideways and don't get thrown out.

Get out, steal another car and repeat :D

^^^^ That's the way I do it !

I break before the turn, coast in and accelerate out.

If I need a bit more maneuverability, I'll tap the handbrake which flicks the back end out slightly.

Does it not have driver skill in this one?

In San Andreas they handling crap until your skill went up, then they were much better
