How to edit xbox one profile?

So setting up my xbox it asked me to create a new account, so I used the email address at one of my domains and had to turn this into a microsoft email account. This is fine.

What isn't fine is instead of asking me for a username it has just generated one...LyingHickory247...worst username I could possibly have.

And it has given me this horrid lizard avatar thing.

I can't find anywhere to change both the username and the avatar? I have activated 12 months live membership on the account already.

HELP!

I assume you accepted the gamertag, as if I remember correctly you dont get forced into a gamertag?

As mentioned, 800 msp or cash equivalent to change it
 
Go to friends, then my profile. You should have options that say:
Appear offline
Choose Colour
Set gamerpic
Set Gamertag
Customise avatar
Privacy settings.

I always thought you can change it once for free?
