how to find dead pixels

hi

what is the best way to test a monitor for dead pixels

and also i have heard tell that some dead pixels can be fixed with softwear is this correct

also i heard the some dead pixels can be fixed by rubbing with a cloth has this got any truth in it

i did google it

but i generaly come to places i trust to find out stuff

that way i dont end up wasting my time on unprofesional stuff

just to add by the way, if the pixel is black or dark grey then it's a dead pixel. If it's white then it's a hot pixel. I find most of the time it's pretty much a given that you're not going to fix these. If the pixel is showing red blue or green then its a stuck pixel and can quite often be fixed with that software or even by gently rubbing it to reset the pixel
