I've just had my N70 replaced by Vodafone due to a fault with it.

I'm wondering what firmware version the new phone has but how do I find out?

thanks

thanks.

grrr, it's still the old version from October 2005!!

Gaah mine is 18th of September!

Is there any way to flash to the latest version yourself using the data cable or has it got to be done in a shop?

AFAIK it needs to be done at a shop that has the right equipment
This is why I like sony ericsson so much. Free data cable and download the latest firmware through their site!

Grrr if only Nokia did that, in this day and age it should be standard.

Took the words right out of my mouth, i really dont understand why the hell nokia wont allow us to do the firmware updates ourselves:confused:...stupid finns :p. Its not like its rocket science, the way SE do it is so easy...step by step.

Its the only thing that puts me off buying nokia phones although i have an n80 coming later this week...but really i want the p990 as i know it will be easier than the n80 to upgrade the firmware etc.

So , if I walked into a nokia shop with my N70 and asked them to update the firmware to the latest version ... would they?

Only to the latest branded version, and at present no operator is running v5.

I think Voda and 3 are still in fact on v2, I know orange have only just moved to v3 as I had just got that done myself (but it made no difference to the rubbish bluetooth support).

Of course you can pay to get the phone debranded, that way you get the latest generic firmware.

That's what im going to do... but does it void your Orange warranty or insurance?

mine is on 2.0537.1.7 dated 18-09-05. Phone was purchased from t-mobile 1 week ago.

So it looks like T-M are on v2 still. It's annoying that if I want to make use of a feature (bluetooth in this case) I can't simply get it upgraded because my provider hasn't bothered to move up to the latest firmware.

debranding seems to be the only way forward, but then if that blows the insurance, there isn't much point to it.
