Hi.

As above really, I was to find out if this guy who claims he is currently in poland really is in poland, I think he's a compulsive lier but I'd like to reveal it, he's not smart with computer so he wont be masking the IP or anything.

So how could I do it? Based off just some posts on a forum?

Thanks
Will.

The IP's recorded for his posts won't be displayed to guests or regular forum members, you'd need to find one of their admins/mods for that info.

I used one of those stats sites once to monitor who was visiting a webpage, you could embed a counter thing in one of your posts then next time he posts match the time to the logs.

There's no way you could do that on vBulletin. It would phase the javascript out. You could use a dynamic image and then log the location of people who download the image when they visit the page but it could be anyones location who visits that page.

Can't you get him on msn, initiate a file transfer and do an... *forgot*... oh that was it, netstat -a :)

It's not Vbulletin, at the bottom it says Powered by phpBB © 2001, 2005 phpBB Group

If you had a webhost you could have your signature say "if your name is bhima click here" and monitor the IP addresses that go there. Obviously people other than bhima will click it but what's the chances they are from Poland too?

I've got my own webserver where i keep my sigs for other forums. The weblogs make interesting reading. The software i use to analyse the logs try to get the country of origin but its not foolproof.

private message him, with some random image on your webserver, then look at the IP that views it.
