I've got several files on my machine, don't think I can go into great detail because it's to do with emulators.

Anyway, how do I file out what file type they are, they have no extensions and windows simply lists them as "files"

There's an option in folders options or view that says "Show file extension for known file types"

If they are being listed as files, then they have no file extension at all. There may be something in the file header in the file, but I have zero idea about this at all :D

Yep as iviv said, if you have already enabled 'show file extensions' and they are still showing as just 'files' then they don't have an extension.

If it's to do with emulators, then try to find the extension of a similar file and just add it manually. Or simply try opening it with your emulator (file>open rom). You don't usually need an extension if you go to file>open, if the emulator understands the file it will just open it.
