Got a video, its HD mpg 1.56GB, 27mins long. i want to split them into smaller parts. The video will not preview thumbnail in windows (XP SP2) but can play video with VLC player

but XP's movie player and virtualdub will NOT open the video. so i guess i got a codec missing.

how can i find out which codec this mpg file use?

thanks

just found it ;) :p :D

so what codec do i need? where can i get it from? will it work with movie maker/virtualdub

thanks :)

As mentioned GSPOT is your friend :)

Also XPcodec pack is a pretty good collection of codecs.

I have found tho that for some mpg clips and HD clip installing a proper DVD playback program like PowerDVD will install the correct codec to get both pictures and sound from your clip.
