How to find out who owns a boarded up house

Theres a house which looks totally abandoned around the corner from me, garden all over grown, windows boarded up, fences smashed etc. It looks like its been this way for a while as well. Id like to find out who owns it so i could see if they want to sell it, is there anyway to do this?
 
Probably bank or council owned... I would contact the local authority first they should be able to help you... land registry, something along those lines...

Your local council perhaps ?

Perhaps they have some address from the person who lived there via council tax.
 
Ill ring the council up at lunch, i dont mind paying for the information from the land registry, the house doesn't have a number or a name so im not sure of its exact address.
 
If you could buy the house, & it's sat on a decent size plot, then look at selling the plot, splitting it, with planning consent for one house on each plot.

not surprised they board up a lot of houses to save from vandals just never bother to keep anything outside the house in a reasonable state!

I doubt a lot they will just sell it to you btw

I need to find the process of putting forward an offer to the council. They probably have plans for building and old peoples home there or something
 
some councils have an "empty home officer" (I recently discovered this)
they can help you, if it's council owned you would likely have to speak to the estates department, the only downside in this that I've seen happen twice before, is that instead of agreeing to sell it directly to you, once they know there is some interest they either put it to auction or just sell it on the open market themselves
 
A friend of mine used to do just this and he has managed to buy a number of house fairly cheap as a result. I think one house that he looked at was just given to him by the family of the people that owned it becuase they didnt know what to do with it and didnt need the money either.
 
Paid for the searches, turns out its council owned. In the end i managed to get through to the right person and it turns out it was put up for auction 3 weeks ago, they were looking to get £220,000 for it, in the end it went for £570,000 ! slightly out of budget lol. 100% sure its a property developer whoes bought it, we'll be seeing 3 houses on there in a couple of months.. Shame really, i would have liked to have actually lived in it in the way it is with a little bit of work.
 
Local councils will also have a list of abandoned buildings they can force sell, so you might want to get in contact and see what's about. Although finding the right person to speak to with the council, well that's the hard part.

And ouch, is it a castle or you in London.
 
It was a bungalow, i would say it looks like a 2 bed from the outside, main attraction to the developer i would imagine was the plot it was on, after further investigation its massive! one owner since 1924 then the council took ownership in 1974 and have had it ever since.
 
In the south a private purchaser may as well not bother with trying to buy plots of land, developers swoop in and are prepared to outbid you on the basis that they'll build several properties not one.

Pretty pointless waste of time.
 
You were lucky to find the owner from the Land Registry title register. Most of the time as it's not uncommon is the property will be registered to Mr XXX at the said property address. Which is not much help if the property is empty.
