How to fix/remove MS Antispyware 2009

I had this come up and now it re-appears every time I restart
also brings up an icon in the tray next to the clock

could someone give me a link to a reliable free way of removing it

searched on here and found http://www.malwarebytes.org/ mentioned

is that the best bet ?

just wanna make sure before I end up making things worse!

Yes, malwarebytes and superantispyware. If possible update definitions prior to scanning. Combofix is another option.

I had someone with this little nasty the other day... Check your Google searches are ok - ie search for bbc, and make sure the result links take you to the BBC site and not re-routed via the go.google.com malware which can also come from the Antispyware 2009.

this is a bugger ... seen it many times on call outs.

first off if it was me i would back my data up and format, as every time i have seen it the machine has also had virus's or loads of reg enrty's, but a good way of sorting it is to use a boot cd or slave the drive in another pc, scan it with the malware and av

I hate the little bugger, but the antimalware scanners do a reasonable job.

nasty it is.. like i said if it was my pc i would reformat, if it was a mates i would patch up, as you can get rid of it fairly easy, i just find these things tend to come back or leave a mess
