Hi all.

Hoped to dust off my old 2011 Kona Fire Mountain and either restore the chain or get a new one. It was fine when I garaged it for storage but unfortunately now facing this issue, any help would be so appreciated.

I have found a chain for it in Halfords. It says below 'push pins' for easy fitting - does this mean I need a chain link tool still? Cheers

The SRAM PC-971 Bike Chain is compatible with 9 speed bikes and because of its PowerChain II technology and Powerlink Gold Chain Connectors it has super strength. For easy fitting and amazing durability this chain has chrome push pins. It's a quality, reliable chain to have on your bike.

SRAM PC-971 Bike Chain Extra Info
  • Compatible with 9 speed bikes
  • Push Pin Power: 200 kgf, Chrome Hardened Pins
  • Technology: PowerChain II & PowerLink Gold Connector
  • Weight: 298g/114 Links
  • Colour: Silver

Don't forget to use the old chain as a guide as to how long to make the new chain.

The old chain is 3 links shorter than the new chain - so will take out 3 links.

Unfortunately I think this part is also bent which doesnt help, is it fixable - is this the "mount" or "is this the gear itself which needs replacing?

The top arrow fits into the little metal widget thingy but the plastic is snapped off (has been since I got it) but the bottom part is mishapen I think?

Can I bend it back (should I?) or will fitting a new one rectify the problem.
