How to free up disk space??

I have a brand new Lenovo IdeaPad 110s. It has 32GB of storage. I followed the set up screen instructions and then checked for updates. It gets 95% through the updates then says there isn't enough disk space.

I haven't loaded anything onto this laptop. No photos, no videos, no music, nothing, it is brand new, yet the hard drive is almost completely full.

I've tried disk cleanup and uninstalling the preinstalled games and apps but the storage is barely moving.

Please can someone help? I'm so frustrated.

Thank you in advance :-)

This is the problem with these low cost units. They only give you about enough storage space for the OS and then if they release a major update, such as creators edition (4gb plus install size), you have not got the room to install it. The only solution is to back up everything, download Windows 10 onto a pendrive and then do a clean install by booting off the drive and then restore your files once this completes.

You could then go to further extremes by disabling hibernate and deleting the hibernation files - this also disables fast startup if using Windows 10. System restore takes up a bit of space too so you could disable that also to reclaim space. These are things I used to do when I used to have a 30GB Kingston SSD as the only drive in my laptop.

Honestly, fit a bigger drive, or install a lightweight Linux distro. I like Elementary Linux.
