Hey guys,

I have my setup running nicely but have formatted a few times to get everything running smooth as possible.

But when I format each time it adds like 5-6gig a time. Currently I have Windows 7 installed with no programs and I have 20gigs free of 60?

WHY THE HELL does a format leave files?

I cannot get into the old skool method of bios and F8 to format the bios?

Can someone tell me how to FULLY clear my SSD, thanks guys.

You have to reinsert the windows disk and boot from it, and do a reinstall, you can then wipe it from there, just delete the partition.

Also, you do not want to do a full format ont he drive, as it will reduce write performance a lot.

If its OCZ you want to secure erase it, check out there forum for tools/guides/links. If its another brand im not sure on which tools work with which brands but google will find it.

As Stulid says though, boot to the cd, and delete the partition, then re partition it and this will remove all file table details and free up all space. I dont know what you have been doing incorrectly, but it shouldnt be using up more space each time you format and install, unless your not formatting it all or something.

Try d-ban I think it's called...
Forgot about that. Unfortunately their website documentation sucks and doesn't mention whether it issues and ATA "secure erase" command or just writes over the entire drive.

Also, don't worry about posting SSD threads in here, as SSD's aren't Hard drives anyway! ;)
Although it is good manners to only post in one of them ;)

I mentioned the other secure erase tools in your other thread. You'll have to go there to find them :p

Well D-ban is worth a go as it's free but it does take a bloody long time to run. I'm pretty sure it just fills the drive with zero's though, but I'm not really sure about the inner working of an SSD so I'm not sure if this will work for you... :)

Also, if I was feeling particularly pedantic then I would go as far as to say that 'memory' would be the most appropriate section for a thread about SSD's.... :p

After a slightly longer look it looks like dban does not secure erase. Secure erase takes an unnervingly short period of time. Snap your fingers and my 120GB Vertex2 was done. Really doesn't seem long enough.

Don't say that. We may get a third thread :o :D
