Hi All

I'm looking for some advice on how to build up traffic/people directly to my new website?

Is it all down to SEO, advertising on social media, great pictures etc?

I run a successful shop on ebay but I want to transition to my website to save costs and allow my orders to run more smoothly (I have a lot of custom made items - car stickers, that I need information to complete)...buyers on ebay seem to not read much of the description and I have to chase for the details to make these stickers = more hassle and culminating on me missing some of the painful targets ebay set top sellers.

Any advice is welcome

Get all past customer emails into a Mailchimp mailing list and announce the news to them via a one off mailshot.

Although...I'm not sure on the legality of that since GDPR came into effect and they haven't already given permission.

SEO takes a long time to kick in and requires constant on going attention. For quick sales you need to be marketing on social networks, IRL and potentially paying for ads in locations where your customer base is hanging out.

Great pictures and well designed site is of course essential for increasing conversion rate once those users are on your site.

What's the link?

Why do you think moving to your own website will save you costs?

Because ebay screws you on fees - although they do have some better rates if you have a proper shop. At least you get the traffic from ebay, which can seem like good value when you end up spending money on advertising elsewhere.

It all depends on what your volume is.

Might help to get active on some car forums and see if you can get some banner ads there or just posting useful content on them under your brand name.

How much of your custom is new customers vs returning customers?

Don't think there's a quick solution, not without spending a lot of money.

An easy one is to include your shop url on promotional material in your packaging. Could offer a discount code to celebrate your new site.

Have to say though some sellers I order regularly from do have their own sites but I still tend to order through eBay either for convenience or because its cheaper (you'd think it would be the other way round but guess ebay is ruthless with competition)

Would you not just consider it a cost of doing business by using eBay to direct a huge audience to your products? I agree with the posted above, I’d favour eBay for the convenience as within a few clicks I have ordered the item and paid using PayPal.

Of course it's a cost of doing business. People generally try and reduce their cost of doing business.

Google adwords, links from other sites (referrals), quality text content that doesn’t spam keywords are good places to start.

My understanding is that if you have a legitimate business interest (you do, they're previous customers and you're advertising your new site), that you can contact all previous customers provided you follow the usual unsubscribe rules etc.
