Heyo

Well, after a day of fiddling and dead CD drives ive finally got my new case and graphics card and setup my PC and reinstalled Windows. Just thought Id share my overclocking success with people (and brag a little, because this is my first proper overclock).

My Rig is as follows:

Core 2 Duo E6400 2.1Ghz
2GB DDR2 800Mhz RAM
BFG 8800GT OC (625/900)
580w PSU
320GB and 200GB HDD

First I gave it a run on standard clocks. My CPU has been at stock since I bought it a year ago as I never (until now) got round to buying a new cooler. Ran 3DMark06 and got a total of 9281. Not bad compaired to the 4400 of my 7800GT OC that the 8800 replaced.

Then I set about overclocking my CPU and GPU. I followed an idiots guide to OCing the CPU, which got me to 3Ghz, but then went further and got to 3.2 with a 400Mhz FSB on an 8x multiplier and a 2x on the RAM to get it to its 800Mhz. RAM timings are 5-5-5-12. This now Idles at about 38-40, and under load has never gone above 52, temps im very happy with.

Next I had a crack at the GPU. Im not planning on running at full OC as the fan is a little noisey, but I went for the 700/1000 level that some cards come at for this test only. Ive fiddled with the fan settings using RivaTuner and ran ATI tool with no artifacts for 20 mins.

So, onto 3DMark06 again, and this time I got a whopping 12309! Thats over 3000 more than before!

So, long story short, ive got 3028 3DMark06 marks for the price of an Artic Freezer 7 Pro.
In other words, a 49% CPU OC and a 33% Graphics performance increase for £14.99 +VAT! :):):)

Thankyou for your time, please feel free to knock me down with your superior overclocks!

I know its not technically free, but the cooler was primaraly bought becasue 55 degrees idle and 70 degrees load at stock speeds with the stock cooler was worrying.

Either way, im pleased as a first proper overclock.

Thats pretty high for the stock cooler, unless you have bad airflow. On my 6300 it never went above 50 with the stock cooler. I need to OC it now I got the same cooler.

The ac7 makes a big difference :D

It was a slightly larger order than the freezer 7. I replaced my cruddy old Antec case with its single 120mm fan, crampt innards and messy cables, with a CoolerMaster 690 with 2 120mm's and the Freezer 7. Add in some tidier cables and the result is my OC.

The stock fan/clocks always ran hot, wasnt expecting any kind of decent overclock, figured I just had a hot chip, but hey!

Shhhh.....

'How to get 3000 3D Marks for the cost of an Artic Freezer 7 Pro, New case, days labour and sliced finger' is a much less impressive thread title.

On that note, is blood conductive?
