how to get 5.1 on msi z68a-g45

hi guys
i have had all my new bits running for a few days now and must say ace!
BF3 looks awesome but on my msi z68a-g45 i have it connected by optical to my surround sound system but it only out puts in 2.0 on my games how can i change this is it possible

also i take it optical is better than coax for pc

Have you installed the Audio software for your motherboard, it will be the Realtek drivers and THQ studio pro software, you should be able to configure your setup from the THQ control panel.

yea i have set this up and left it running in the bck ground but for example then when i load bf3 it will just out put in 2.0
