So someone recommended I buy CORSAIR Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR5 6600 CL 32 RAM for my new build so I did.

I probably should have done more research because I now understand that it doesn't just run at 6600MHz out of the box. Apparently I have to enable something called XMP, but I have no idea if that's easy to do or if it could lead to problems. Is this just something I can press a button for and forget about or is there a lot of tinkering involved?

I've never overclocked anything before.

Yeah, either your motherboard will enable it when it boots, if not go into overclocking and the dram/memory/ram section and there will be something called xmp or xmp profile, and click on that and enable, you might have to try profile 1/2/3 depending on your hardware, best to look it up in your motherboards manual though mate, it also depends whether your cpu/motherboard will support that speed.

Tonight, I for example have had tot change my 3600mhz ram to run at 3200mhz despite having the xmp profiles, some motherboards/cpu's just don't play ball :(
Trippy I only learnt about this tonight though, like you. Least I can help you out after hours of messing around manually trying different speeds myself.

If you go on your motherboard manufacturers website and select your exact model, in the downloads/support section, you should be able to get a .PDF file of the manual and just view it on your computer/phone/tablet :) keep it saved so you have it handy on your phone/pc/tablet, means if the pc fails you don't have to dig out the book from the box ;)

Fingers crossed for you boss!

Most motherboard bios these days have the XMP setting on the first screen you see when you go into bios, it will be disabled, click this once and select the first profile if multiple are shown, save settings and let it boot.
