How to get a PDA working on WiFi?

Hi, soon my mum is getting a o2 XDA Mini S. This has WiFi and I want here to be able to access the internet via WiFi and access files on my computer etc.

I've never used wireless networking so I'm not sure what equipment i will need? Can you help me by telling me what I will need?

Well lets get the obvious out of the way, have you got a wireless router? Or any kind of router? Not that you will need one, but it will make life easier
