Don't want copilot maps to use up gigs of internal phone memory? this is the solution! no rooting required. just a simple notepad.exe editor will do!
found that online. however, the "/mnt/copilot/external_sd/" string is wrong
i reckon it should be "/mnt/external_sd/copilot" for galaxy tab users and "/mnt/sdcard/external_sd/copilot" for galaxy s users....IIRC....just did it but can't exactly remember the directory path.....u should be able to find it just using the file manager to navigate to the copilot directory on the external SD card and just using that!
Ok got it to work with the maps on the SD card and not on internal memory. Havent found any problems yet but I'm hungry so have stopped testing. I only have North America maps (US and Canada) so cant test the actual direction capabilities in the maps new position. Only strange thing I have found is that before I moved the maps the switch maps option showed Canada and North America and now it doesnt show either but still seems to work.
I can't take credit for this - it is posted out on the web somewhere how to do it but not on the tab.
For anyone who is interested (at your own risk):-
1) take a copy of the full copilot directory on internal sd card and shove it on your external sd card (fallback).
2) create copilot directory on the external drive and copy maps to it (in my case they were under a directory NA but you may have EU).
3) Delete the corresponding directory from the copilot directory on internal SD card.
4) edit the user.cfg file in the root of the copilot directory on the internal SD (notepad)
Change where ever NA(or EU or whatever) is mentioned frm /mnt/copilot/ to /mnt/copilot/external_sd/ if external_sd is the name that your tablet knows the external SD card as.
And bingo no maps on the internal card. If it doesnt wok then you can just copy back your saved backup from step 1.
Let me know if that works for anyone else - or if anyone else is willing to give it a go. I am not responsible for any failures.
