How to get esata to work?

I have a JW-IP35-PRO mobo, its one of the oc own branded ones they were selling a little while back, im trying to get a hdd working on the esata connection, i have the correct esata cable & power going to the hdd but it does not show up in windows, no sign of it in device manager either.
How do i get esata to work......:confused:
 
When i fitted the mobo i think i installed all the drivers from the mobo disc, i cant see anything in the bios relating to anything to do with sata controllers let alone esata, & i have tried trimming 3mm off of the esata cable but still nothing, but i will double check all things again tomorrow.
Should there deffo be something in the bios to turn the esata function on, if so then what else might it be called?
 
I have checked the mobo instalation disc & i had installed everything there was to install, a bit stuck now really, unless someone can sugest something in the bios i need to turn on?
 
Couple of things, what type of cable are you using, does the hard drive spin up, can you remove the hard drive and try connecting it directly to the motherboard.
 
M8, I have already asked if you have anything in the Control Panel, it will be very obv as you expand each + section.

As for the Bios, I would guess its on by default and will be in the Storage Section or Onboard Devices Section.
 
I am using sata to esata cable, the hdd does spin up, & i know the hdd works ok connected to the normal sata connections inside case.
There is nothing showing in device manage for the hdd at all, i have tried it on another mobo (asus) after enabeling ahci in registry then in bios & that works ok, but there is no option to enable ahci in the bios on this JW-IP35-PRO mobo, but i have read that a bios update gives the option to enable it.

But if it depends on ahci drivers & ahci enabled in bios to work that would mean that it was never going to work with the default bios the mobo was shipped with because the option is not there in the bios, so im guessing it must be something else :confused:
 
I'm not talking about the HDD in Device Manager.

Now you say your using SATA to ESATA at least I know its not a Add On Controller on Mobo ie Silicon Image etc.

There should be nothing to mess with in Bios or Drivers if its on your Normal Chipsets SATA headers if your Primary HDD is working ok.
 
umm, ok, so what do you think the problem might be if the hdd & cable is working ok & its not something to do with the bios?

On the asus pc i mentioned, when connected to esata the hdd shows up in device manager with the other hdd.
 
If you solve this riddle then pls post about how you did m8 ;).

I use my esata from the back of my com on the mobo and it works perfectly,But the front sata - esata connection only ever works and shows up in "my computer" when i load the system up with it plugged in and turned on ready :confused:
 
Does the front E-SATA connect to an internal SATA connector on the motherboard, if it does you may be running in IDE mode which I think does not support hot swop or plug 'n' play.
 
I have had experience with an older asrock 775 motherboard where the e-sata port had a header behind it and you had to hook to one of your standard sata ports. Maybe something like this for your board?

Googled the motherboard and well look at the white sata port directly behind the e-sata :)
 
Hey bobbydigital, i thought id try your idea of connecting a internal sata cable to that white sata port behind the esata & you know what, it only bloody well worked !! so thanks for your help, much appreciated. Very odd tho that the mobo manual does not mention anything about it, its also different to how the other asus mobo with esata works.
Great, now just gotta update the bios to be able to enable the ahci to make the esata hot swapable, yet more problems, ho hum.......:(
 
Updated the bios to v1.5 & enabled the ahci but the esata is still not hot swapable like my other asus board, i wonder if its because this JW mobo is really using one of the internal sata connections, where as the asus is using a seperate controller for esata, any ideas?
