I've got invited if anyone wants one. Only bad thing though is that the address will be '@googlemail.com' and not '@gmail.com'.

I've got 100 invites left also if anyone needs one.

I think I do too which is why it always surprises me when I realise people still ask for them :p

Didn't there used to be a thread for this though?

Yea, I think some German company had a patent on that, so they got sued. Fortuantely us old time Gmailers got to keep @gmail.com. :)

Yea, well, I only know the basics of it now, was ages ago I was told about it and my memory is kinda poor.

I heard that even though you're address is @googlemail.com or .co.uk, you can still send messages to @gmail.com as they auto-forward. I may be wrong though.

Why is gmail still invite only? Surely everyone must have at least one by now! Is it still beta or something?
Its still beta and still invite only to limit the number of people signing up. They have to do this so they don't run out of storage space, as they don't have enough space for everyone in the world to sign up several times but they do have exactly enough to cover the number of invites they have given out. If it wasn't limited like this people might all sign up to hundreds of accounts and start using it as storage or something and there would be no way of regulating it to ensure everyone gets enough space.

I've got like 99 invites or something...i won't be able to keep track of this thread, but if you want one, drop me an email (in trust) and your reply will be an invite :)

I use Gmail Drive to upload things to the space, its fairly useful although i've not really found a way to use it except for sending things already uploaded to people quickly.
