is there a way to get it cheaper than that? thats RAC and ill get £78 back

get a nationwide flexplus account.

£120 a year gets you car breakdown, travel insurance, mobile phone insurance, etc. all in 1.

£120 a year is a bargain for what you get. and it's charged monthly too at £10 per month. so you don't need to pay £120 up front.

Silly question but what car and where do you service it?

On both my Focus and my Zafira, had them both serviced at main dealers (£199 major for focus, £149 minor for zafira), and both of them included a years breakdown cover. Don't think it included European cover, but was certainly full UK including homestart.

Ford Assistance is UK and Europe. As far as I know it's basically top level AA cover. You get it when you service your car at Ford and it makes it a pretty good deal. For some reason I just glossed over it and didn't realise until this year how good it was, so I shan't be renewing with RAC anymore.

Nope.

I've called them out a few times.

If it's after say 5pm they will take you home since no garage is open. then in the morning take you to your garage of choice free of charge. i've had to do this quite a few times due to a recurring fault in the wifes car.

Nationwide flex plus is the best way to do this.

£120 a year for;

european breakdown cover for you and your partner (joint account) in any vehicle they are driving or a passenger in.

mobile phone insurance for up to 4 phones (joint account) within your household

worldwide travel insurance including the stuff you normally need to pay extra for, for both you and your partner

free additional 1 year warranty on brand new electrical items so long as you keep the receipt.

the last one is a bit meh, but individually european breakdown cover, mobile insurance for 4 phones plus the top travel insurance for 2 people alone would cost you £450 if you bought them all individually.

so long as they keep this account £10 per month I'll never leave

Not the best.

Read section C.

I dunno how much the people who nationwide use stick to the rules but my wife and I have used them twice and they took us both times ~30 miles to a garage near where we live and were chill about it.

Bit of an edge case but I renewed my BMW warranty today (I did not opt for emergency support or whatever it's called) and they said if you break down >0.5M from home they will come out and repair it / take it to your closest garage anyway. I can't vouch for this personally but it's what he said when i was renewing it on the phone. I imagine this isn't as great as the coverage mostly discussed in this thread but I didn't realise it until today. Covers accident recovery too.

i just cancelled similar with my bank (natwest) that was £16/17 a month. thing is i can get the break down cover cheaper and mobile insurance excess is that high its not worth it for a cheap phone. £10 a month is a much better deal tho

with nationwide the excess rates are different depending on the damage/loss and the phone. with iphone excess being a lot higher than a any other phone for instance.

i think i paid £30 to get my sony Z3 fixed by them when it was a goner.

with natwest its £75 (but i think they put it up to £100) i had a smart ultra 6 so for a extra £25 i could just buy a new phone and not have to wait. i think ill have to sign up for that account

with a join account both you and your partner get all the benefits.

so we are both covered for travel insurance, car breakdown, mobiles, etc as well as 2 other people in your HH for mobiles for the same fee £10 a month.

i've never had any issues with any part of their service either. used the breakdown service more times than i would have liked to. probably about 12 in the space of 6 months.

Missus want to get some cover, brand new Honda so unlikely to break down but she can't change a tyre so I need to get some.

No banking addons. Who is the best for the price, or are they all the same?

I got RAC full breakdown cover through TopCashback. Cover was £114.99 with £55 cash back makes it's a steal. The deal may still be on.

I got roadside, recovery, key return and onward travel. £64 by phoning them up. I was quite chuffed to get the onward travel thrown in as it includes:

The two big companies are the AA and the RAC so start with them.

My family has a family membership with 4 of us for around £200 with the RAC but we did try an alternative about 3 years ago with a bad experience.

Start Rescue worked out about £60 for me for the full package, so just went with that.

Everything seems to point to them being quite decent really.
