Hi,
since i purchased my new set up i been looking forward to playing bf2.
When i 1st got it i just played it single player as i thought there would be single player missions etc. but its jus a friendly offline battle nothing else.
So i realised i had to play online. I been using gamespy to pick my servers and tryin to play it. I find it very hard to play, i been playing it like i normally play css on public jus running around tryin to find my opponent and killing them but i always end up getting shot at by snipers or bombed by planes etc.

How does the ranking system work? some other players have different uniform to me, how do i get them?
are there any 'easy' servers out there?

not particularly new to FPS but new to bf2 style games. i pld cs 1.6 and css.

Thanks for any advice.

play as part of a team and pick a role that suits you, medic, assault etc and keep playing, on servers there will always be insanely good people, just stick at it, i suck at this game but i still play it

I agree with the team sentiment to a point- I normally play spec ops or sniper, and these are roles which are far better either in a team composed solely of these or normally solo. However, a squad can also bog you down majorly and it depends as always on the other members, & your style of play.
A hint- Try to find clan servers as opposed to the EA/ Multiplay ones, these are usually more n00b friendly.

thanks for the tips guys.
When u save play as a team, how would i go about doing that? when i respawn im usually by myself, do i follow some1 or goto where there are loads of ppl my side?

go with the flow, attack points that your commander has said to, but attack the general area everyone else seems to be, at the end of the day numbers can help.

of course dont be afraid to suddenly sneak off and capture a completely unguarded flag...just to aggrovate the enemy if anything hehe

Join a squad first by pressing caps lock (default) this will show all the available squads you can join, jump in one of these. All the people in your squad will show up green

Join a squad, try to work as a team. Medic is a good startiing point, as you can heal yourself. Also rember to use single fire, much more accurate.

good thing to do is try a server where you get some decent team play going on

try 50k www.50klicks.co.uk or feel free to try our clan server at www.jpnwo.com

BF2 is a bit like CS when it comes to servers, join a random public server, and your likely to end up with a server full of plane whores, or a server full of rambos not wanting to work as a team.

lol I never join a team, I tend to go 1 army mad ;)

still most of the time I just go round reviving people, I play to revive its in my nature. I thought I must have saved so many dead people and checked and only had a basic medic badge lol

Some bods got advanced badges for medic and engineer.... thats pure crazy

I know the single-player game can seem a little unrewarding, but take the time to learn the maps and fly the choppers/planes on the single player mode (and learn to be the co-pilot in a single player game as well).

Will save you getting flamed for flying into a mountain on your first ever chopper flight...

hehe i know i can fly (not as well as some but im pretty ok) but still avoid flying if i can, im dont need the hastle of getting blamed for any potential mistakes, easier to blame someone else

you need to be friggin leet now to stay up in the air in a jet since the last patch.
basically get into a squad and get on that mic! theres nothing worse than lack of comms. if youre unlucky and get the 12 year old chatterbox leave that one and join another, also try not to go on EA publics, try clan based servers instead where you can.

the 50k town map server is awsome.. dont have to worry about planes, only a couple of choppers ... lots of team oriented ground combat .... totally awsome, always spawn on ** squad leader if u can

medic is a very nice class and u will get nice high scores from all ** kills + healing/reviing... plus u can get the g36c which is an amazing gun :)

Avoid the EA servers, they are full of gimps. Any large clan server should be much better for teamplay rather then teamkilling.

Medic, engineer (especially if your in a vehicle for auto repair) and support are the main squad classes. Obviously switch to Anti Tank when needed

My ten cents.

I would say like all online games if you don't like the server quickly move to another there are plenty. The difference between playing BF2 in a team or with a bunch of players is Huge.
Once you find a decent server such as 50K then look in the squad list at the other players in the squads and see whats needed. It will either be Medic or support. Pick the needed class and join the squad announcing quickly and briefly that you are noob but here to help.
Then concentrate if medic on keeping your squad leader alive and dumping those meddy packs out.
If support, as soon as you spawn chuck those ammo packs at your members then drop to the floor to effectively use the weapon. Do not go rushing in as support but select a good position to go prone and cover your members/leader.
One last thing is that i do not feel its a coincidence that your sprint lasts the distant between cover spots.
Get used to walking and saving your sprint for when you need it not the other way round.
Most of all enjoy yourself.

loving it

Hi guys,
since reading all the advice ive been playing bf2 quite abit, mainly on the 50k server. I am loving it! i could see my score improving with every round, i moved from like bottom of table to top 10 now, i was 5th earlier today :D
playing in a squad is definately much better than lone wolf, really starting to enjoy the game now, promoted to private the other day too :D

how do i unlock new guns?

I started out just over a week ago, hit 1.5k tonight :D

The game is sooo much fun if either everyone is playing in a squad or if you and a couple of mates are on a free for all type server, the fact 3 of you are playing as a mini team makes it so much easier, 1 v 3 medics we all know what the odds of survival for the medics are :D

The best online game I have played yet, the teamwork aspect is what keeps it fresh, and makes every round even with the same people totally different.
