How to get into windows administrator personal folder?

my laptop hd is started to play up the other day and windows just crashes when i get in and it wont let me re-install windows. so i've got the hd into a caddy to try retrieve some important files but the administrator folder is locked, presumebly cos i had a password on the windows account. any one know how i can get to the files?

in a folder go to tools>folder options>view

make sure simple file sharing is disabled

find the folder you need to access

right click> properties>security>advanced>owner

change owner to: select the current username you are using

make sure replace owner on subcontainers and objects is selected

Or if your account is a member of administrators (i assume it will be), just reset the administrator password and login as that.

take ownership of the folder

google that and the ms link tells you how
