The other day I checked my storage space after downloading a game, and it went down way more than it should..

Did some investigating with windirstat and turns out there was a hibernation file called "hiberfil.sys" which when deleted (via command prompt) gave me just over 30GB of space!

I assume some of you know about this but thought I would share it

Thanks

Yeah the more ram you have
The bigger the hyberfil.sys file is
I always delete mine
As I don't use hibernate
And can still use sleep if you delete it
Main reason I delete it is for backups
It makes my backup images smaller

30GB is nothing, 300GB yes. Storage is so cheaper now, even the best NVMEe. You need more storage :)

So if you have 16gb ram, can you disable creating hyberfil.sys file if you don't hibernate the at all?

There's several ways to delete it
I use
powercfg -h off
But
There's also the possibility to resize it
Should you desperately need to save a bit of space
But still want to use hibernate

Cmd as administrator
Size 40 being the % you reduce it to
Ie 40%
think 40% is as low as it allows
Powercfg –h –size 40
or another option
powercfg hibernate size 0
followed by
powercfg /h /type reduced
