With XBMC. I ordered an xbox media controller. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CO-058-MS

To hopefully work with xbmc. Unfortunately it never came with a receiver... so I tried to use my existing xbox receiver I got with my wireless joypad controller. This failed miserably. I have managed to tune it into my TV but not the pc. Surely this controller can operate the pc.

I looked into some software to change the I.D. to "0" to make it work with anything. Forget the name of it now.

I also have a usb bluetooth receiver if that would help?

Any help on this would be amazing!!

EDIT** I've just realised the remote is actually infrared, so it wont work at all with a bluetooth receiver. Why I never realised this before I will not know. However I have also tried tuning it into my media center infrared receiver too no avail. I got the receiver with a pc link media remote. This remote works xbmc fine, but I love the feel of the xbox remote and the backlit keys.

This is the remote I have at the moment that currently operates my XBMC

Here is a guide to set up your xbox remote.

It does say you need the receiver from a microsoft media remote, but if that is the speedlink sl-6399, you may be able to use that receiver.

Hope this helps and good luck.

It is indeed the sl-6399 media remote. The receiver looks identical to the Microsoft one. In fact it probably is and has just been re branded.

I'm sure that's the guide I followed through last week too no avail. I'm running Windows 7 not vista, that's maybe an issue.

"If you already have Microsoft Remote Control v2 and Receiver 1.0A you will notice that when you press any button on the Xbox remote facing towards the IR Receiver, the receiver receives the signal as indicated by the blinking red light on the receiver but it does not perform any operation."

This doesn't happen for me. Really weird. I wonder if it's worth buying an official Microsoft receiver.

Wouldn't think it will be a W7/Vista issue,.

Found this registry tweak that may get it working, although it does seem similar to part of the other guide only done in regedit.

Be sure to backup your registry first just in case.

Just tried it and go nada :(. It's not even blinking to indicate it's receiving a signal, never mind decoding what the signal is.

Just out of interest, is there any specific reason you got the xbox remote?

Sorry for the question, i don't use xbmc and was wondering why not just use the speedlink remote.

How does your Speedlink remote work with Win7 and XBMC? Have you tried Windows media center with it by any chance?

The speedlink works fine with both xbmc and win 7, no hitches at all. The receiver doesn't pick up the signal from the xbox remote, so it wont work with any program, not even windows media centre.

Yeah Speedlink SL-6399. Just for a cheap XBMC HTPC. Don't need anything more fancy, but would love to get a decent logitech harmony all in one.

Snap. Just can't justify the cost for it. I had a 50% off code for Logitech and was going to bag myself a harmony. Went for a K800 instead. The speedlink works fine in XBMC. However I do have issues with the volume not working, It's connected via my telly with hdmi, so I just use the tv remote and all is well, doesn't bother me really.
