I just got a Sharp LCD TV and the guy in the shop said it would support 1280 768 pc resolution. When I linked it up though it would only go to 1024 768 and that was using 1:1 so the image wasnt even stretched.

Is there any software that I can get that will improve this or will I have to take the TV back and swap it.

its not a fault with the TV, its the fault of how your computer sees it.

windows runs some checks on the monitor/tv that you've attached, and then gives you a list of available resolutions. If the resolution you know the TV can run isnt listed (as i had with a cheap 15" LCD i bought for a friend) you need to use a program called powerstrip to force the resolution

The programme is a bit on the tricky side. heres a guide to using it

Thanks for the guide, it sounds very interesting and quite complicated. :D

I have decided to send the LCD TV back though as I have seen some which say that they do support 1280 768 pc resolutions which would be fine for me as I don't need to run in really high definition.

Did you install the tv drivers?

Assuming you're using windows xp, right click the desktop, properties, settings, advanced options then monitor will present a checkbox that will allow you to display 'modes' that windows thinks your monitor can't display. That means when you next select desktop properties, you'll be able to select the desired resolution. But really the tv's drivers should sort this out.

Heh, LCD TVs don't have drivers, well this one didn't at least, it's just a problem with the TV as it says in the manual it can't display 1024 768.

I will probably get the 26" Sony TV now as I checked their website and they definitly support 1280 768. :D

An LCD TV is a monitor with speakers. Look on Sharps website for drivers, and also to find the resolution as i'm not sure if you know what you're talking about.

My Samsung 32" won't do 1280x720 via VGA... It goes from 1024x768 to 1360x768 and I'm quite happy with it running on 1360x768! Via HDMI it deos 1280x720 just fine but conected to a pc its better on VGA than DVI->HDMI.
