How to get "shared files and folders" working

Hi,

I have 2pcs, and one of them is used as the media pc connected to the HDTV, the other is in my room. Both have windowsXP32bit, and they are both connected to the same router.

I want the media pc to be able to access my music ( or some music) and my pictures and films etc.

How does this work?

I tried renaming the PCs, giving shared files to the other folders, this doesn't work.

What I generally do for my PC is to share my documents folder but use a name such as "pcdocs$". The $ sign makes it a secret share, and I just create a shortcut on the PC I am connecting from or use run.

[EDIT:] Oh, is File and Printer Sharing allowed through the PC's firewalls?

I did that, both pcs now have the same workgroup name.

how do I turn it on? I checked my firewall and I am not sure how I can add this to printerhsaring allowed.

In my old house I could just copy paste something into the "my shared folders" and my flatmates could watch it or copy if from there .here nothing seems to appear in those files.
