how to get that subaru sound ?

Hello all,

I know next to nothing about cars, but my car needs a new exhaust system, I like it to have a slight rumble nothing loud just something nice if you catch my drift, what parts of the exhaust makes this sound? where should I invest more money.

This is what I kind of want, It doesnt have to be as loud as a Subaru as my car is not a Subaru, just something that has that rumble..

Is your car a Subaru or a Porsche? If not it will never sound like a boxer engine

the good old Scooby sound is by changing the Exhaust to the Nur Spec r, not sure what else ? I think, but don't quote me on that, never had a Scooby

It's the unequal length exhaust manifold that gives the Subaru engine the rumbling sound.

ok, so seems It wont sound like a Subaru, but I'm after a better sound then the stock exhaust, so would it be more of the back box that changes the sound or is it something else?

You'll make it sound a bit like a Subaru if you get custom headers, but you won't really achieve it with an exhaust.

Custom exhaust is the place to go. You need deep pockets though, but they will make it sound just how you want it

THats cool, atleast it gives me something to research now. and a good place to start.

Does anyone know of any good places in the uk that sells custom headers?

What kind of Mazda 6? MPS?

Also I'd imagine you'd probably lose power with unequal length headers on a Mazda 6. Infact IIRC putting equal headers on a Scooby, can give you more power.

It's going to cost £1000 (or close to it) for unequal headers and a full exhaust system..

Mine doesn't have that, sounds like any other 4 pot now with a slightly grumble at idle lol

Are you 18? If not, spend the money on power, not sound. Nobody cares about sound if you don't have the numbers to match it.

The answer is cherry bombs.

ive had all sorts of performance exhausts on a variety of cars and if you just want something cool sounding get a back box with a 3-4" exit and it will roar.
