Hello all

Back again, and broke. No money for an upgrade. Can you help me clock my rig?

520w psu
Gigabyte p353c-d3sr mobo
4gb Geil ram
HD29000pro flashed to XT
Q6600 quad core

Do I need to sell a kidney and upgrade? What should I do to get the best out of this setup?

Thanks overclockers (in advance).

A clocked Q66 should last you a while, most people seem to be hitting 3/3.2 Ghz with relative ease here. Don't have one myself, but try 330 FSB with the x9 multi and see if she boots.

Well, it is clocked (CPU) to 3.2 and is stable.

I am wondering moreover what to do with the HD 2900pro flashed to 2900xt.

I've tried quite a few combinations now, and the blasted thing shows flickers, lags, even weird colour blurs (Crysis, CoJ - I know, I know).

Question is, do I have to buy another card, or can I make this one happier?

PS Will check timings etc in BIOS - 9x sounds familiar (not at home now)

Thanks for your help fellows.

urm i did the bios flash with an x800gto2 (squared and yeah twas about 3-4 years ago now but it was cool!). anyway i had the same problem with the new bios (and temps of 80-110 deagree C! idle to load). best thing to do with it is put back the original bios... :( should help it out a bit (and if not sell it on ebay to some unsuspecting person and get a cheap 8800gt...)

Yeah, I'd take the bios back to the original. Either lower your graphics detail to medium of get yourself a shiny new ati 4850, great value for money! Although my x1900xt is still goin 30+fps with medium on a 24", all maxed out and 40+ in steam engine games with no overclock ;)

You say that you have clocked your Quad to 3.2ghz and that it's stable but is that with the stock cooler? If so i would check your temps asap. You will more than likely find you need a decent cooler. Is that stable with prime small fft's?

Regarding your 2900, flash it back to the correct bios and IF it's ok flog it on the bay. Don't stick it on there saying it's ok if it's faulty. There's enough dodgy sellers on there without you adding to them.

Well, the CPU is stable, and the temps are fine - I've got a tuniq 120 on there.

I think I will return the HD2900 to the original BIOS. It appears to be the consensus that flashing to XT causes problems.

There's nothing wrong with the card otherwise, and if there were, there is no way I would sell it to someone - disgraceful. I'd simply dust off the nipple tassels and get back on that bar top.
