This is a just a copy and paste from another forum. It did it and it and sony have had no problem repairing it.

sony have a scheme in the uk (not sure if its the whole of europe) its called continuous play. its for out of warranty ps3s. if your ps3 breaks then dont pay the £150 repair fee.

its an insurance scheme that costs a fiver a month. but basically just sign up for it AFTER your ps3 has broken. you then ring them and tell them your ps3 is broken, you dont even need to wait for the letter of confirmation, theyll give you your reference number over the phone. theyll ask you to try a few things to see if that fixes it. (restart, reformat, things like that) if it doesnt fix it then theyll send out a replacement ps3 the next working day and take away your one.
its like for like so if you have a 60gb youll get a 60gb back. you dont need a reciept because its for out of warranty ps3s. i dont think it even matters if you have the warranty sticker. if you cancel within 7 days then they dont even charge you the £4.99 lol. the replacement ps3 has 3months warranty on it too.
dont worry about ringing up a few days after taking out the policy, they dont seem bothered by how long youve had it. ive claimed on this and so have a couple of my mates. you could even pick up a faulty ps3 off ebay and make a claim if you fancy getting a cheapo ps3
