Hi,

My contract on o2 has expired, and with my needs (not wanting an iPhone) I decided the best thing for me was to get an iPhone that I can sell off and then purchase a phone I actually want..

I hear I will need to activate the iPhone when it arrives. Should I do this myself before selling or let the buyer do this? What does the activation actually do (link the phone to my o2 number/contract in some way?)?

Also, do o2 lock their iPhones? Am I at risk of losing my iPhone specific tariff?

Thanks,

Im pretty sure you can activate with no SIM inside the phone, it's just to set the phone up ready for use (All you do is connect it to iTunes, so there is no reason why the buyer can not do this, inless they ask you to?)

The phone will be locked to o2, but there is a 2 click process around that so i wouldn't worry about it. But you can also pay o2 to unlock it.

There is rumors that on the 27th apple will announce the next iPhone (To be released July) so your not going to have any problem selling a brand new 3gs while someone waits

I take it you'll be getting the iPhone for free as an upgrade, then selling it? If so, then you can get O2 to unlock it at any point.

If you do then it requires no activation or anything. All the buyer does is put in his sim card, plug it into iTunes, and then it should activate and unlock.
